On Friday 5th October 2007, PerthWeb Pty Ltd officially acquired the key intellectual property of Freckle Creative from the Liquidators appointed to the company, Summers Corporate.
PerthWeb hired Freckle Creative's Project Manager, Ann Mianulli, shortly after Freckle Creative's doors closed in mid August. Following discussions with Quentin Gribble, Freckle's previous owner, and the Liquidator at Summers Corporate, PerthWeb expressed an interest in acquiring the business name and client project materials of Freckle Creative.
Our reasoning for this was fairly straight forward. Freckle Creative had a similar variety of products and services as PerthWeb, including web site design, corporate design, and web site hosting, and were similarly priced. Their former Project Manager is now working for PerthWeb, and has a good working knowledge of most projects and a relationship with many of the clients.
Essentially, PerthWeb feels it is well placed to support Freckle's clients into the future, in what is understandably a difficult and frustrating time. PerthWeb has now returned the Freckle Creative web site to service, and will be supporting past Freckle Clients with existing products and services wherever possible, particularly with the Freckle Content Management System. Please note, all initial consulting over projects with ex-Freckle clients will be free of charge.
PerthWeb now have in their possession a copy of client project files provided by Quentin Gribble and the company Liquidator. Should you wish a copy of these client files, they are available on CD or DVD ROM, at a cost of $250 inclusive of GST. This fee is to cover both costs in obtaining this material from the Liquidator, and for collation, creation, and posting of the materials on CD or DVD ROM. Please note, PerthWeb cannot guarantee that all files have been provided by the Liquidator, but will outline the available materials, and chase up further content with the Liquidator if required.
PerthWeb have reviewed client materials and the Freckle Content Management System in concert with Ann, Freckle's former Project Manager who now works for PerthWeb. PerthWeb are fully confident they can support all Freckle clients into the future, either continuing to support the Freckle CMS, or providing an alternative CMS. If you undertake a new project with PerthWeb, as a former Freckle client you will automatically receive a copy of all your past project materials free of charge on completion of the project.
Those who currently have unfinished projects with Freckle Creative should contact the Liquidator, to discuss if they can obtain a refund for incomplete work. However, PerthWeb are happy to discuss these projects with any such clients, and investigate how the work may be completed.
Those who had web site hosting with Freckle will have already received notification from the Liquidator that Icon (www.icon.net.au) have taken over hosting of their web sites. This means there will be no interruption to hosting of their web site, and their CMS will continue to operate.
Please note, PerthWeb is not involved in any debt collection as part of Freckle Creative's Liquidation, and nor does it affect any future work with PerthWeb, or provision of client materials. PerthWeb was established in 1998 to meet the growing need for high quality, affordable web site production and ecommerce for small to medium enterprises. Since then it has established itself as a leading web site developer, with clients both nationally and internationally, including the Royal Flying Doctor Service - Western Operations, Scoop Traveller, the Margaret River Wine Industry Association, Belmont Forum, Mirrabooka Square, The Australian Property Institute – WA Division, and the WA Local Government Superannuation Plan. PerthWeb's vast array of services has also grown to include content management systems, web site hosting, software and database development, corporate design and multimedia, and search engine optimization services.
PerthWeb also operates a niche business known as glyFX, which is a design company catering to the software industry, helping them to design effective interfaces for software to increase usability whilst also helping to better promote their software. This business operates primarily overseas, with clients such as Nero Software (makers of Nero, the most popular CD/DVD authoring program), Agilent Technologies (large European electronics and chemical conglomerate), and Cochlear (makers of the bionic ear).
In 2005 PerthWeb received an award for the Elizabeth's Bookshops web site in the WA Web Awards as the best e-commerce site for 2005, and have also been finalists in 2006 and 2007. Matthew Price, the Managing Director, was also a Western Region finalist in the Ernst & Young, Young Entrepreneurs Award for 2005.
The whole team here at PerthWeb were both shocked and disappointed to see Freckle Creative fall into Liquidation, as we were always friendly competitors and admired their work. We hope however that we can now help all of Freckle Creative's clients who require assistance over the coming months and years in continuing their good work.
